Manifesto

1. We at Phat Bull recognise the need for a greater awareness around drug use and its consequences for both the individual and society This can be achieved through managed non-profit making events financed via public funding and sponsorship and the creation of a multi-media Road-show promoting drugs awareness and education.
2. We believe that information and education around these issues would do much to lessen the negative effects of drug use.
3. We believe that this information must be targeted at both drug users and non-drug users alike in an effort to raise awareness in the population at large.
4. We believe that harm reduction advice should take precedence over prohibitive advice.
5. We accept that drugs are here to stay and that prohibition not only does not work but also exacerbates the problem in that it marginalises the user and drives him/her underground.
7. We believe in targeting our information/education in an age specific way utilising advice and working with established agencies in the field
8. We believe in user involvement
9. We recognise that the techno-generation has linked together the use of drugs and entertainment and that therefore the entertainment industry is uniquely placed to act as a source for the dissemination of information.
10. We will work with our contacts in the drug treatment and criminal justice system and the entertainment industry in the process of information dissemination.
11. We recognise that non-problematic drug use is now inherent in society and that this section of drug users is in need only of harm minimisation advice and relevant information.
12. We recognise that problematic drug users need support during their drug use as well as appropriate referral and support if they wish to curtail use; and aftercare should be recognised as part of the treatment listening to the views of the individual concerned.
13. We believe that a more open and realistic approach is needed with regard to drugs awareness education to under sixteen's.
14. We believe that treatment should be sympathetic to the needs of the individual and tailored to that individual rather than blanket prescriptive measures.
15. We believe in the empowerment of the individual and, in line with protocols regarding service user involvement, believe that the individual has a right of involvement and responsibility in his/her treatment.
16. We will work with our contacts within service user groups to maximise their involvement in planned events.
17. We believe in partnership and joined up working - utilising support from the communities where events may be held as well as the local agencies and DATs
